Math Circle
A math circle brings students who enjoy the beauty and fascination of mathematics together with an instructor who leads the exploration of intriguing topics. If you have any questions about our math circle don't hesitate to contact us.
Mission
Our goal is to have a great time learning and doing mathematics.
Content
One math circle can't appeal to students of all ages, so the Washington University circle has focused on the interests of students in the 8th through 12th grade. Anyone is welcome to attend, including parents.
We are partners with the Missouri ARML team. Missouri ARML, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing a forum for students to study challenging mathematics, to engage in sophisticated problem solving, and to prepare a team to represent Missouri at the National Tournament of the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML). Students do not need to be a member of the Missouri ARML team to participate in or enjoy ARML practices.
Our sessions are split between stand alone topics and ARML presentations with problem sets. Previous talks have covered number theory, advanced counting techniques, Euclidean geometry, problem solving strategies and more.
Donations
There is no charge to attending the Washington University Math Circle. However we encourage financial contribution. Please support us.
Joining
Joining is easy. All you have to do is come to our meetings. We would like to see you every week but you are not required to attend regularly. We meet on Sunday afternoons. Please see our schedule for specific dates.
Rules for Parents
The Washington University Math Circle is for students. We love when parents (and teachers) attend our circle, but it is important to remember that the circle is for the students. We ask that parents sit in the back and not talk (between themselves, the students or the presenters).
